State vs. General Governement

"In the next place, the state governments are, by the very theory of the constitution, essential constituent parts of the general government. They can exist without the latter, but the latter cannot exist without them."
--Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833

"Few men desire liberty;
most men wish only for a just master."
-- Sallust

All things are full of weariness;
a man cannot utter it;
the eye is not satisfied with seeing,
nor the ear filled with hearing.
What has been is what will be,
and what has been done is what will be done,
and there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there a thing of which it is said,
"See, this is new"?
It has been already in the ages before us.
There is no remembrance of former things,
nor will there be any remembrance of later things
yet to be among those who come after.
(Ecc 1:8-11 ESV)

As there has been nothing new under the sun, let us learn from the past and seek to learn our lessons from those who have gone before.

Oh I forget, evolution.  “We have progressed beyond those behind us.  We are better than our forefathers.”

My hope lies not with making ‘heaven on earth’ but in seeking the one who made the heavens and the earth.  I look forward to the day he says,

His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.'
(Mat 25:21 ESV)
